Rook News Spring 2022 – Lower School

Lower School has enjoyed a busy term with lots of activities that resembled pre covid, normal, fun school life.

All the children (and lots of staff) in the Lower School took part in World Book Day and dressed up as their favourite book character. Throughout the day, there were a range of activities for the children to immerse themselves in, including a treasure hunt and the very popular ‘Masked Reader’. It was wonderful to see the library even more bustling than usual.

During the second part of the term, we also celebrated Science Week with a focus around farming. The children in Nursery upwards enjoyed a visit from the farm with alpacas, chickens, rabbits, goats, Guinea pigs and a horse and donkey parking up outside the Paddocks building. The children enjoyed learning about the animals and being shown how to look after them. Over the course of the week the children also took part in competitions, went pond dipping, enjoyed an interactive assembly and visited the PYO farm. The excitement throughout the week was so wonderful to see.

Also this term the children have been involved in a variety of other activities including Voice in a Million at Wembley, a Titanic immersion afternoon, a cake sale organised by year 6 and a number of sports fixtures.

As well as the huge number of trips, visits and internal activities the children have loved the range of extra curricular clubs and have been busy in the classrooms. It has been a pleasure to see how involved the children have become in their topics and this has been supported by the introduction of the children initiated topic boxes in the library.

I am always immensely proud of the children and team of staff in the Lower School but particularly so this term. They have shown huge amounts of resilience, humour and hard work and I am both thankful and proud of what they achieved. Happy Easter!

Mrs L Wowk

Head of Lower School
