Rook News Autumn 2022 – Performing Arts

Music

The Music Department have had a busy and exciting term. We’ve enjoyed being able to offer a full complement of extracurricular clubs without the restrictions of COVID. We have been able to resume our lower school tea concerts and enjoyed an evening packed with talent on the Senior Performing Arts evening. In other news, we have been busy preparing for a Rotary Music evening and Voice In A Million 2023. We are also looking forward to enjoying our Carol Service again at St.Mary’s Church. With pupils continuing to succeed in ABRSM Music exams our department continues to grow and we are looking forward to encouraging more pupils to enjoy the benefits of instrumental playing. We have enjoyed weekly performances in assembly from our musicians across the school.

Drama

It has been a very busy, yet fun term in the drama department. In November, the GCSE drama and LAMDA students were taken to London to see the highly acclaimed and hilarious performance of ‘The Play That Goes Wrong’ at The Dutchess Theatre. Earlier in the day the pupils participated in a comedy workshop at Pineapple studios, which was led by the actors themselves!

Sixteen LAMDA students took their exams in front of a visiting examiner on Thursday, results due in January. They had all worked exceptionally hard and deserve to do well.

Finally, we wish Year 11 GCSE students the best of luck as they perform their scripted plays in front of an AQA examiner after the Christmas break. All seven have wowed Mr Blackmore with their unfaltering dedication in lessons. Good luck to you all!
