Excitement filled the Prep School yesterday as pupils from Year 2 welcomed Antarctic adventurer and founder of the 2041 charity, Jenny Cooke, for a special visit. Jenny shared captivating photos and stories from her time on the ice in Antarctica, sparking the pupils’ imaginations and deepening their understanding of the polar regions.
During her visit, Jenny also surprised the Year 3 and Year 4 “Champions of Antarctica” at their inaugural club meeting. Our Champions of Antarctica meet once a month to explore different aspect of the coldest and windiest place on earth. The young environmental enthusiasts celebrated with a piece of cake before discussing innovative ideas for new and exciting projects to support the preservation of these vital ecosystems.
Year 6 pupils had the unique opportunity to hear about Jenny’s recent expedition to the Amazon Rainforest. Her vivid recounting of her experiences exploring this incredible biome left the pupils inspired and eager to learn more about the natural world.
Mrs Grit Robinson, Year 2 teacher and coordinator of Rookwood’s Champions of Antarctica, said: “Jenny’s visits are always a highlight for the pupils. Her passion for conservation and exploration brings our Geography lessons to life in ways that textbooks simply cannot. The pupils are inspired not only to learn about the world but also to care for it.”
