Enrichment

Contributing to the wider school experience

Enrichment at Rookwood School adds a significant layer of provision that contributes to the wider school experience for senior school pupils. Opportunities are vast and pupils enjoy the choice, making lifelong memories and friendships that endure into adulthood.

A broad range of opportunities

Our pupils enjoy a range of sporting activities, enrichment opportunities, trips and adventurous outdoor experiences such as The Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions. Many of our pupils participate in competitive events with local schools, others can be seen thriving in drama productions, either on stage acting or collaborating backstage with costume design or stage production. The musical life of Rookwood is also particularly special with many pupils developing a love of music by performing in symphomatic school events or channelling a personal ambition to master an instrument.

Student Agency and Leadership

We thrive as a community and as such highly value the contribution our pupils bring to school life. A number of our pupils opt for leadership roles in our Senior School, which include the positions of Head Students, Prefects, House Captains and a thriving and active Pupil Council. The views and opinions of our pupils matter – it is their school after all – which is why we strongly encourage pupils to have a sense of agency over their learning and school experience. This may be co-creating a new part of the curriculum with their teacher, contributing to innovation for digital learning, or actually leading a new extra curricular club for a cause that matters most to them. At Rookwood, daring to learn means daring to shape their school experience too.

Learning for Life

Our older pupils also have the opportunity to explore the world of work with organised work taster days and participation in community and service-based activities for local causes. At Rookwood School we learn for life, not just exams.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme

This profound national programme of practical, cultural and adventurous challenges is designed to aid the development of young people in the UK. At Rookwood, we very much support this and offer Bronze and Silver levels focusing on 3 key areas: volunteering in the local community, pursuing a skill or hobby and taking part in physical recreation. Pupils are also required to plan, train for and complete a self-sufficient expedition. Participation in the Award develops important attributes and qualities in our pupils including self-motivation, commitment, self-awareness, initiative, persistence and self-discipline. Additionally, they gain valuable experience in key skills such as working with others, communication and problem solving.
