A Happy and Thriving School: October 2022

Is it possible to have a pastorally focused school which also has high academic standards? At Rookwood, the answer is “Yes!”

Rookwood School prides itself on its nurturing and supportive environment, where children are treated with compassion and respect. We are the first UK school to introduce Emotional Assertiveness, which provides children with the skills and vocabulary to recognise their mental health needs and those of their peers. We are school which places pastoral care at its heart ensuring that children feel safe, valued and happy.

Our approach also means that Rookwood children become resilient learners. From the nursery to the sixth form, we have high expectations in the classroom and our children regularly rise to this challenge. This is achieved in small classes and with dedicated, enthusiastic teachers and results in exceptional academic progress and excellent value-added in both the preparatory and senior schools.

We were delighted to open our sixth form last year and we have already seen a tripling of student numbers into this year’s lower sixth. With a choice of 24 A-levels, the Extended Project Qualification and a wide variety of enrichment, sporting and leadership opportunities, Rookwood’s sixth form prepares its students for their university or employment pathway of choice.

A short walk from Andover train station, Rookwood’s boarding facilities offer a distinctive home-from-home appeal. With multiple lounges, equipped with pianos, games and TVs, a large garden and home cooked meals, a Rookwood School boarding experience is truly unique.
