Drama

Back to Curriculum (Years 7-11)

Drama is a powerful, creative and rewarding subject which incorporates many different aspects of life. Our Drama department develops our pupils’ key life skills including teamwork, communication, creativity, critical thinking, and awareness. At Rookwood we create a safe and respectful environment where pupils feel at ease to confidently express their own thoughts and opinions.

Broad learning opportunities

In the lower senior years, pupils not only learn the skills to become competent performers, designers or directors, but also gain a key understanding of the history of theater starting at its Greek origins. Our older senior school pupils further develop their analytical and evaluative skills as they explore various set texts and live theater performances. They also study the key drama practitioners, Brecht, Stanislavski and Artaud ahead of devising their own plays as part of their exam requirement.

Extra opportunities

The Drama department at Rookwood is always buzzing with excitement and opportunities. We offer many different activities outside of the classroom such as theatre trips, professional workshops and private LAMDA tuition to name a few. Older Drama scholars actively take on important roles within our department and are responsible for directing and producing a play for the Year 7’s.

“I love the Drama department because I feel like my creativity is free to flow and my ideas are always heard. I also have learnt so many skills that I will take with me into later life.”

Imogen, Year 9 Drama Scholar and LAMDA pupil.
