Physical Education

In the P.E. department at Rookwood School our aim is to make sport fun, enjoyable and varied.

All of our students are engaged in a broad curriculum offering a wide range of sports and also through our extra-curricular activities. The emphasis of P.E. at Rookwood School is inclusivity, ensuring all students can access sport and feel valued in doing so.  We recognise that sport can have a huge impact on student’s emotional wellbeing and therefore focus on giving our students the opportunity of participating in as many different activities as possible. Our aim to support each student in finding and developing their passion in sport.

The Physical Education Learning Journey outlines key milestones and holistic targets that we aim to meet through the PE curriculum at each key stage in the school. The progression from learning fundamental movements in KS1 through to tactical awareness in KS4 is deliberate and structured into each block of work. At Rookwood, we are not solely focused on developing athletic skills and techniques, but also developing student’s social and emotional wellbeing through P.E.

The P.E. curriculum at Rookwood is varied and flexible. It has been structured to offer a blend of invasion games, net or wall games, striking and fielding games and compositional activities such as gymnastics and dance. The variety of sports and activities available includes:
