As we reach the end of a busy and rewarding term at Rookwood, the arrival of the festive season gives us a moment to pause, breathe and reflect. Schools move at pace and it is easy to be swept along by the rhythm of lessons, performances, assessments and the many brilliant events that fill our calendar. Christmas offers us something different. It invites us to step back, look around and remember what matters most.
For me, Christmas has always been a season rooted in giving, gratitude and connection. These are not simply festive sentiments, but qualities that sit at the heart of our school values and the way we work together as a community. My own message to myself this Christmas is a simple one. I want to put distractions, particularly technology, away more often and pay closer attention to the world around me, enabling me to enjoy time with family and friends and to notice the small, joyful moments that are too easy to overlook.
Perhaps this is a message for all of us. Our children and the young people in our care notice far more than we think. They learn from the example we set and from the way we choose to spend our time. If we, as the responsible adults, can be more present this Christmas, we give them something far more valuable than any gift. We show them that connection matters, that relationships come first and that joy is often found in the simplest of moments.
Thank you for everything you have contributed to Rookwood this term. Your support, energy and commitment make this a very special place to learn and grow. When the time comes, I wish you a peaceful and restful holiday and a happy, hopeful start to 2026.
