Prep School Pastoral Care

An individual approach

At Rookwood School, we recognise that every child is unique and has their own specific strengths and talents, as well as areas for development. We are a truly inclusive school and get to know every child so that we tailor our provision accordingly.

Social and emotional development

We recognise that the social and emotional development of our Prep School pupils is fundamental to their immediate happiness and wellbeing, as well as being a significant factor in their learning potential and for engagement. Happy children that feel safe and valued, learn and flourish. Pupils in Prep School are well known by their dedicated teachers – relationships are key so that any pastoral matters can be noticed organically by the caring staff as well being highlighted by the children themselves, approaching teachers who they trust and feel valued by.

The Nest:
A place for nurturing love and care

We know that some days some children need some help to deal with their emotions and feelings. In the Prep School we offer ‘The Nest’, our specially designed pastoral support room run by our pastoral support lead, which is open throughout the school day offering a safe place for the children to visit should they have any worries, concerns or are finding any aspects of life difficult. This may be the need for a loving reminder that all is well or it may indicate a larger need for support with their mental health; either way the nurturing environment of The Nest, the specific resources and our ELSA trained staff will ensure that each child is given the space to work through any issues in the calm, safe and open yet private surroundings.
