Bee Room learn about Recycling

In the Bee Room at Little Rooks, the children have been diving into the important topic of recycling.

Our young Bees have been exploring the names and properties of different recyclable materials, and they thoroughly enjoyed sorting through a large pile of recycling that they collectively brought in. Each child had the chance to choose a recyclable item and decide whether it belonged in the cardboard box, paper box, or plastic box. Some children were initially unsure where their items should go, prompting them to check inside each box before making their choices, demonstrating their curiosity and critical thinking skills.

Nursery children

In addition to sorting materials, the children have been actively rescuing sea animals from a water tray polluted with plastic, engaging them in discussions about the impact of waste on marine life.

The exploration of recycling has extended beyond the classroom as well. The children have been creatively repurposing items both in nursery and at home, resulting in some fantastic creations! They’ve transformed plastic bags, redesigned pre-loved clothing, and even turned kitchen roll tubes into car ramps. Boxes have become garages, houses, and rockets, while clear pudding pots have been transformed into glasses and binoculars during free play.

A big thank you to all the families for bringing in recycling items! The children have had so much fun turning these materials into ‘superfast space rockets,’ ‘crocodile cats,’ and ‘rockets with boosters,’ to name just a few. Using scissors, Sellotape, and PVA glue—with a little support from the adults—they’ve produced some wonderful creations.
