Rook News Spring 2023 – Lower School

There have been some exciting events this term, which have supported and enhanced the pupils’ learning.

Years 3, 4 and 5 all benefitted from a fabulous (if very cold) trip to Ufton Court, supporting their topic work on Romans, Greeks and Egyptians. Reception had a fantastic time at Pizza Express making delicious pizzas with the help of the staff and they all took their pizzas home! Year 4 have been working on Crime and Punishment and spent a very enjoyable Friday learning about life in Shepton Mallet Prison. Miss Abraham did make sure that none of them remained locked up!

We were fortunate enough to have a visit from Ellie Rattu, a member of the England Netball team. She spoke to all the children and was incredibly patient with their many questions. If they weren’t netball fans to begin with, they were all very enthusiastic by the end! We have also taken part in numerous Sports fixtures, including rural schools’ football.

On 2nd March, we celebrated World Book Day. Thanks to the efforts of the Lower School team we had a huge range of activities including the ‘Masked Reader’, a Scavenger Hunt and prizes for the best costume. The staff and children went over and above with their costumes – they all looked amazing.

Our term has come to an end with the performances of Pirates of the Curry Bean, a lively musical which has involved all the Junior pupils. This production has provided a fantastic opportunity to learn about teamwork, build self-confidence and above all, have fun!
