Reflecting on an exciting term at Rookwood School

As we say farewell to a dynamic Autumn Term at Rookwood School, it is with great pleasure to share some of the strategic developments that have shaped the educational experience at Rookwood in recent months.

Digital Strategy:
Further to the installation of 1 Gb/s fibre broadband connection in the summer, we have since completed Phase 1 of our digital strategy. Our aim is to increase the visibility and accessibility of IT in the classrooms, and I am pleased to say that updates have been made to the IT provision in the Prep School as well as the Art and Science Block. We are now evaluating device options for staff and pupils, and I look forward to sharing an update on this in the Spring Term.

Nursery Expansion and Year-Round Provision:
The launch of year-round nursery provision in the Summer has proved popular with existing and new families and my thanks goes to the Nursery Team who have worked hard to enhance and extend our offering. Looking ahead, the next phase of Nursery development includes plans to introduce a dedicated baby and toddler facility in 2024, further enriching the nurturing environment we provide for our youngest learners.

Food and Nutrition:
Our catering provision has undergone a significant transformation with the appointment of Mr. Nick Price as our Head Chef. Bringing a wealth of experience, including a Michelin Star and collaboration with Jamie Oliver, Mr. Price has enhanced our school menu with a three-week rotation. The Meet the Chef event provided parents with a taste of our culinary offerings and insights into Mr. Price’s vision for the future of food and nutrition at Rookwood School. We very much look forward to developments throughout 2024 including the introduction of a herb garden.

Enhanced Careers Support:
Welcoming Mrs. Sarah Singlehurst as our Careers & Progression Advisor in September has been instrumental in enhancing our careers support. Mrs. Singlehurst is shaping a comprehensive ‘Futures Programme’ for pupils across all year groups, encompassing workplace experiences, visits, careers days, and networking opportunities. The inaugural Ambitions Day that she orchestrated in November, as well as the 1:1 meetings with Upper Sixth and Year 11 pupils this term, emphasise the highly personalised approach we are adopting to guiding pupils through key transition points. Next term, Mrs Singlehurst will be heavily involved in meeting Year 9 pupils to assist them in choosing their options.

Prep School Milestones:
This term marks the completion of Mrs. Elaine Ozanne’s first year as Head of Prep School. Under her leadership, Mrs. Ozanne has launched Read, Write, Inc. – a new literary programme for pupils in Reception to Year 4 designed to create fluent readers, confident speakers and willing writers. In addition to launching initiatives including Bags of Kindness, Celebration Assembles and enhanced Year 6 responsibilities, Mrs. Ozanne has also launched weekly outdoor learning for Reception to Year 2, enhancing our commitment to a holistic education.

As we reflect on these strategic developments, I express my gratitude to our dedicated staff, supportive parents, and engaged pupils who collectively contribute to the vibrant and forward-looking community that is Rookwood School. I wish everyone a restful holiday season and look forward to continued growth and success in the coming terms.
