Rookwood pupil reaches final of national musical theatre competition

Pupil singing into microphone

Rookwood School is thrilled to announce the exceptional achievement of Macey, a talented Year 11 pupil. Having achieved her Grade 8 Musical Theatre LAMDA with Distinction, Mrs. Louise Parsons, Head of Performing and Creative Arts at Rookwood School, collaborated with Macey on a captivating video recording of her first performance piece, “I Cain’t Say No!” for the Independent Schools Association (ISA) Musical Theatre Competition 2024.

Pupils from ISA member schools (of which there are 659 in the UK) were invited to showcase their singing and acting abilities with a solo or duet performance of a song from their favourite musical. During the judging process, quality of tone, technique, interpretation, dynamics and stage presence were all taken into consideration.

In the remarkable rendition that Macey submitted, she portrayed the character of Ado Annie with vocal expertise and superb characterization, showcasing her talent and dedication to the arts. Having submitted the video, and with over 270 entries, we were delighted to find out that Macey has reached the final of the competition taking place in Ascot in May.

Reflecting on Macey’s accomplishment, Mrs. Parsons said: ‘Macey’s journey and dedication to her craft are truly inspiring. Her performance in “I Cain’t Say No!” exemplifies her exceptional talent and passion for musical theatre, and we wish her every success in the final.’
