It has been a fantastic term of sport at Rookwood, both inside and outside of the classroom. In curriculum time, all year groups have been learning through various sports such as Hockey, Badminton, Tennis, Volleyball and more.
Through our extra curricular provision, 86% of pupils in years 3-10 played at least one competitive fixture this term against another school with over 120 pupils playing across various sports such as Badminton, Basketball, Netball, Football, Rugby, Gymnastics, Cross Country and Hockey. We have competed well at local level but also at county level which has been a fantastic achievement for a small school.
Notable achievements this term include the following:
- Year 5&6 Basketball Team winning the district 3v3 competition and playing at the County Championships.
- A Year 5 pupil who qualified to race at the County Cross Country finals.
- Our Year 9 Netball Team coming third in the district.
- Our girls and Key Stage 3 boys crowned district champions for badminton and went on to place 6th and 4th respectively in the whole of Hampshire.
- Our Year 9 Football Team winning the District Championship League and our Year 10 team coming second in their district league.
In the Prep School this term we hosted an in-house Gymnastics Festival and a rural school Year 3 and 4 3v3 Indoor Hockey Festival which involved four schools and over 50 pupils. We have also been the venue for local rural schools’ football tournaments. Next term we will host district biathlon and swimming.
In examination subjects, our Year 10 GCSE PE pupils had the opportunity to visit the world-class sports facilities at the University of Bath (click here for full details).
Looking ahead to Summer Term, we are excited to take part in various sports such as cricket, rounders, tennis, athletics, swimming and more. It is clear that our broad curriculum is really helping to develop well rounded sports people with solid fundamental skills and the ability to transfer these across multiple sports.
