Art scholars bring memories to life through meaningful community project

Art Scholars have been involved in a truly special intergenerational project in partnership with residents at Andover Nursing Home.

The project began on Wednesday 12th November, when students from Years 7 to 10 visited the home to meet the residents. Each scholar was paired with a resident, spending time listening to their life stories, learning about their experiences, and building meaningful connections. Inspired by these conversations, the students went on to create individual pieces of artwork celebrating the lives and memories of the people they met.

On 10th March, the scholars returned to present their finished pieces. The visit was filled with smiles and touching moments, as residents reflected on memories from years gone by. The completed artworks will now be proudly displayed in residents’ bedrooms, serving as lasting reminders of these shared experiences.

One resident, Richard, said: “This is so lovely. It brings back great memories from when I was a herdsman.”

Students also reflected on the impact of the project: “It was great listening to their life stories and hearing their perspective on important points in life.”

This meaningful initiative not only celebrated creativity but also helped to bridge the generational gap, fostering empathy, understanding, and connection.

A heartfelt thank you goes to the residents and staff at Andover Nursing Home for making the experience so memorable.
