Preparing for the Future: Careers, Choices and Apprenticeships

It has been a busy half term for Mrs Singlehurst, Head of Futures, as she continues to embed Unifrog across the school, ensuring pupils and students can explore careers, post-16 options, and apprenticeships.

Year 9 pupils reflected on their interests and favourite subjects while learning how their GCSE choices may impact future opportunities. They attended taster lessons and spoke to Mrs Singlehurst and Heads of Department at the Options Evening for students and parents.

Year 10 pupils attended the Get Inspired careers event in Basingstoke, meeting local employers, taking part in interactive activities, including some requiring safety equipment—and asking insightful questions about a variety of careers.

This week, in National Apprenticeships Week, senior school students attended employer-led assemblies by Peta Green from Howdens and Rookwood alumna Grace Davis, currently completing a degree apprenticeship with BAE. Pupils learned about the wide range of apprenticeship opportunities, asked questions, and explored real-world career pathways. Teachers also integrated apprenticeship information into lessons, and Years 7 to 9 pupils researched apprenticeships during IT lessons, even testing their knowledge through online games.

After half term, the school will celebrate National Careers Week, with more interactive, informative, and inspiring activities to help pupils and students prepare for their futures.
