Reception class has had a magical time exploring the fascinating world of toys. The pupils delved into the history of the Teddy Bear, tracing its origins to President Theodore Roosevelt, who famously spared a bear during a hunting trip. Inspired by the classic story ‘Corduroy Bear’, the pupils designed him a stylish pair of dungarees and practiced step-by-step drawing to create their very own teddy bears, each with a unique name.
Building on their design skills, the pupils investigated how different toys move, examining battery-powered, push-and-pull, wind-up, and remote-controlled toys. Creativity soared as they designed their own robots, imagining special functions like making lunch or giving big hugs.
With their toy topic wrapped up, Reception class is now diving into the festive spirit. They’ve been decorating the classroom and practicing fine motor skills in Santa’s workshop by wrapping presents. Exploring Christmas traditions, the pupils created their own Christingles while reflecting on the meaning of each element.
