What inspired you to pursue a leadership role in education, and what excites you most about leading Rookwood School?
My journey into educational leadership was driven by my volunteering experiences whilst I was at university and as a young adult. Consequently, I have a deep passion for fostering learning environments where students can thrive and reach their full potential. The opportunity to shape and support a school community and impact students’ lives positively was incredibly motivating. Leading Rookwood School excites me because of its commitment to it’s moto ‘dare to know’ and the ASPIRE values, which align closely with my own educational philosophy. I am particularly enthusiastic about fostering a culture of ambition and personal growth, helping students develop resilience, and guiding them to achieve their dreams.
What is your vision for Rookwood School, and how do you plan to shape its future?
My vision for Rookwood School is to create an environment where every student is encouraged to be ambitious, feel safe, and grow personally and academically. I plan to shape the school’s future by embedding our values into all aspects of school life, focusing on developing innovative and inclusive learning experiences, and strengthening our community ties. By promoting a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, I hope to inspire both students and staff to strive for excellence and embrace lifelong learning.
How do you believe schools can best prepare students for success in today’s world?
Schools can best prepare students for success by equipping them with not only academic knowledge but also essential life skills such as critical thinking, adaptability, and emotional intelligence. Integrating real-world experiences, fostering a growth mindset, and providing opportunities for students to explore their interests and passions are crucial. Additionally, nurturing resilience and responsibility will help students navigate the challenges of an ever-evolving world.
What are your top priorities as you take on this role, and how will they benefit the students and school community?
My top priorities are to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment, promote the ASPIRE values, and focus on enhancing academic and personal development opportunities for students. I aim to create a school culture where students feel valued and motivated to excel. This approach will not only benefit students by fostering their growth and confidence but also strengthen the overall school community through shared goals and values.
If you could give one piece of advice to students, what would it be?
My advice to students would be to embrace challenges and view them as opportunities for growth. Don’t be afraid to take risks and step out of your comfort zone, as these experiences will help you build resilience and discover your true potential. Remember, success is a journey, not a destination, and every step you take towards your goals is valuable.
