Pupils complete Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition

Pupils at Rookwood School taking part in Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Last Saturday morning, Rookwood School’s Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award group set out on their assessed expedition. Walking from Wareham Forest to Studland following routes they had planned themselves, they had to be self-sufficient and carry everything they would need including tents, stoves and food for the three days. They camped at two different farms and walked through stunning, rolling countryside ending up on a beautiful Dorset beach and were accompanied by Derek the duck who had his photograph taken many times throughout the journey.

They formed an outstanding team, working hard to support each other and showing magnificent skill in every area. Their navigation was strong, camp craft was excellent, and they were cheerful and positive throughout the weekend – with the possible exception of the steep climb over Ballard Down!

The expedition is just one of four sections that must be completed to achieve this level. Alongside this, they also have to complete physical, skill and volunteering activities which they organise themselves. Once all four sections are completed, they will achieve their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Well done to everyone involved and best of luck with completing all sections.
