Rookwood School welcomes children from military families

Rookwood School is highly experienced in educating and caring for children from armed forces families, with many families currently on roll and staff with military backgrounds. Children can start their Rookwood journey at any age, from 2 to 18 years, and we offer a variety of boarding options from 7 years including full-time, weekly and flexi-boarding.

Rookwood School is the closest independent school to Army Headquarters and we have bus routes to Middle Wallop, Worthy Down and Tidworth.

Serving members of the British Armed Forces receive 15% off our tuition fees. We are also proud to offer an additional 15% off boarding fees for the children of Armed Forces personnel who qualify for the CEA. You can view our fees, here.

Embracing the unique needs of military families

We understand the unique needs and inevitable upheaval military families face. Our emphasis on pastoral care and providing stability and security for each child ensures they thrive and get the most out of life at Rookwood School. Moreover, the fact that we have military families amongst the children and staff means there is always an understanding and supportive ear for the particular worries and needs of military pupils.

Home-from-home boarding experience

Our cosy boarding houses, situated a short walk from the school site, provide a nurturing home-from-home experience. The caring team ensure every child is made to feel welcome and has the best possible boarding experience – from thoughtfully prepared activities to taking the children to appointments. The team are fully committed to ensuring each child settles quickly, feels secure and thoroughly enjoys their boarding experience.

Seamless transitions

We recognise that frequent moves can disrupt a child’s education. At Rookwood School, we specialise in seamless transitions, ensuring that your child’s academic journey remains uninterrupted. Our experienced and dedicated staff are well-versed in easing the adjustment process, making each move a smooth and positive experience.

Tailored curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to be flexible and adaptable, accommodating the diverse needs of military families. We offer a broad range of subjects and extracurricular activities, allowing pupils to pursue their interests and develop key skills that will serve them well in any educational setting.

Well-being support

We understand that the well-being of the entire family is crucial. Rookwood provides comprehensive emotional support services to help pupils and their families navigate the challenges of military life. Our pastoral care system ensures that every pupil has access to a supportive network of teachers and staff. Recently, Rookwood School was shortlisted for the ISA Award for Excellence and Innovation in Mental Health and Wellbeing. Learn more, here.

Flexible enrolment

Recognising the unpredictable nature of military postings, we offer flexible enrolment options to accommodate the needs of military families. Whether you’re joining us for a short assignment or a more extended stay, we’re here to make the enrolment process as smooth as possible.

Our dedicated Registrar, Mrs Christa Walker, is highly experienced in assisting with school transfers, liaising with education authorities, and ensuring a seamless transition for your child.
