Rookwood joins Hello Yellow to raise awareness of mental health

Rookwood will be joining schools and communities across the country in recognising Hello Yellow, YoungMinds’ annual campaign to raise awareness of young people’s mental health.

Educational research highlights that positive psychological wellbeing is associated with greater progress and stronger academic outcomes. For me, however, wellbeing is about far more than academic results. At Rookwood, we talk about wanting our pupils to be kind, happy and successful, and central to this is supporting both our pupils and staff to be emotionally healthy. Our ASPIRE value of Emotional Wellbeing reflects our belief that schools should develop and support the whole person, and that positive mental health matters because it can influence relationships, happiness, fulfilment and success throughout our lives.

Hello Yellow gives us an opportunity to make something that matters every day particularly visible. It encourages us to notice one another, to ask how someone is doing and, importantly, to listen.

On Friday 9 October, I encourage every child and member of staff to accessorise with something yellow, and I hope that seeing yellow around Rookwood will provide a simple reminder of the importance of looking after our own wellbeing and that of those around us.
