A Magical World Book Day

The Prep School enjoyed a truly magical celebration of World Book Day, filled with stories, imagination, and creativity from start to finish.

The day began with a special assembly, setting the tone for a celebration of reading for pleasure. Pupils then took part in a BBC Live Lesson, where they explored different ways to enjoy reading, completed fun challenges, and heard from inspiring authors.

A highlight of the day was the fantastic range of costumes, as pupils arrived dressed as their favourite book characters. From Where’s Wally and Harry Potter to fairy-tale favourites, superheroes, and classic storybook characters, the creativity and enthusiasm on display were wonderful to see.

Throughout the day, pupils took part in a variety of exciting activities. The ever-popular “Masked Reader” challenge had everyone guessing which teacher was behind the mask, while the book swap gave pupils the chance to share much-loved stories and discover new ones. Book trails around the school added an extra sense of adventure, as children solved clues and searched for hidden book covers.

Creativity continued in the classroom, where pupils explored intriguing images and crafted their own imaginative ten-word tales, inspired by author Joseph Coelho. This activity highlighted just how powerful a few carefully chosen words can be. Pupils also designed bookmarks and took part in the much-loved “Decorate a Potato” competition, bringing favourite book characters to life in wonderfully inventive ways.

The day concluded with a lively round of “Musical Chairs – Book Style”, where pupils shared book recommendations as they moved around.

It was a joyful and inspiring celebration, showcasing not only a love of books and authors, but also the imagination, creativity, and enthusiasm for reading that thrives throughout the Prep School.
