Rookwood School’s very own Mr Neil Brewer took to the pitch on Saturday 3rd May in support of a fantastic cause, playing in the Annual John Baxter Charity Trophy match for New Street Youth Football Club.
In his third appearance in the fixture, Mr Brewer played for the Vixens – the female youth teams’ coaches – in their now-traditional face-off against the Foxes, the male youth coaches. Not only did the Vixens secure a 4–1 victory, making it three wins in a row, but the match also raised an incredible £12,871 for Pancreatic Cancer and other local charities.
“It’s always a privilege to be part of the John Baxter Charity Trophy – especially knowing the impact it has for such important causes,” said Mr Brewer. “Playing alongside Petr Čech again was a real honour, but the best part is seeing our community come together through football. I’m incredibly proud to represent New Street and Rookwood in something so special.”
One of the many highlights for Mr Brewer was once again sharing the pitch with legendary goalkeeper Petr Čech, the former Chelsea and Arsenal star who is considered one of the greatest goalkeepers in Premier League history. Čech, who has won three English Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy, and five FA Cups, brought his usual class to the game – all in aid of a worthy cause.
Mr Brewer is a familiar face in the New Street Football Club community. He currently serves as lead coach for the Under 11s Vixens and assistant coach to the Ladies’ First Team. He is also working towards his UEFA B coaching licence – one of the highest coaching qualifications outside the professional game.
We are incredibly proud of Mr Brewer’s dedication both on and off the field. His efforts exemplify the Rookwood spirit of community, excellence, and compassion.
