Year 10 pupils’ success in basketball

Our Year 10 pupil Oliver played this season for the Abingdon Eagles Basketball Team in the U16s National League, where the team finished in 2nd place in their conference. Oliver was awarded recognition for this achievement, along with his teammates, by Basketball England.

At the Club Awards Night on Sunday, Oliver also received the ‘Most Progressive, Improved, and Committed Player Award/Trophy.’ Here’s what Oliver’s coach had to say about his achievement:

“Oliver joined the club at the beginning of pre-season last year, with an impressive performance at the club trials. He moved over from Winchester Royals and was the only player selected who was not already part of the Eagles family.

He is also the youngest player on the U16s team and, due to his birthday being in August, was still 13 when he trialled, meaning he was competing with some boys who were a full two years older than him. He has continued to compete successfully all season.

His commitment and progression as a player this year have been outstanding. His dedication to training, attendance, effort, and performance has been exemplary. He integrated into the team very quickly, becoming one of our most prolific 3-point shooters over the course of the season.

Oliver should be very proud of his all-around performance, and I know he will continue to progress in the U16s next season as a second-year player, where his attitude and commitment will enable him to help the younger players promoted from the U14s team.”

Well done, Oliver, on an outstanding achievement!
